Piggyvest Logo (www.nigerialogos.com)

This work of mine is aimed at increasing user engagement within the piggyvest app. From the first time i discovered the piggyvest app on twitter, i advertised its benefits to a large number of people, in most cases foregoing the benefits due me as a referrer to eliminate any semblance of the app to the ponzi schemes that had just devastated a large number of people financials.

Let me first express my admiration for the design of the recently released piggyvest app at at November 2019. Of all the apps i have used since acquiring an android device i have never been more impressed. It would be a dream come true just to intern at the feet of the design team.

Current Design of the Home activity of the piggyvest app

Company Mission

The company’s mission is to give everyone the power to better manage and grow their finance. It has done so with the introduction of numerous features which include safelock, group savings, investify, among others.

Personas

The project started by getting familiar with the app, its current users and potential users. I asked questions on whatsapp platforms and also enlisted the help of acquaintances and friends who had actively sought referrals to help me post the survey questions on their forums. From the feedback gotten i created 2 user personas.

Tope - 24 years old. A recent graduate living in Lagos , with a salary of 45,000 Naira. I am just starting out on my career journey and i would like to save for the future. I am looking for a secure place where i will receive interests, with the options of several investment opportunities.

Eunice - 45 Years old. A single mum of 4 children. It is nice saving funds for emergencies as well as house rents and children fees. I was introduced to the app by my children, but even though i love the idea of saving money, i am still scared of putting money online in a company without a human face.

Offline Competition

The highest competition online savings platform face in Nigeria is from offline options. The offline competition include, cooperatives, Ajo, Banks( who have created accounts dedicated to savings eg. Diamond esusu) , and piggy bank at home.

Research Findings

A large proportion of respondents displayed a lack of inclination to invest money in an app whose physical address is unknown to them, another section viewed the absence of a human touch to the app as suspicious, To them the fear of MMM was the beginning of wisdom. For new users , a vast majority complained about the difficulty experienced navigating the app.

Design Goals

After the research and user interviews, I came up with a set of design goals to solve the problem identified by the research.

  1. User Engagement: The design should be aimed at increasing user engagement within the app.
  2. Increase User Trust: Incorporated within the design should be features that boosts the user confidence in the safety of their money.
  3. Ease of Navigation: The Home activity of the app should be informative enough to point the users in the right direction.

Ideation + Validation

  • I came up with 5 concepts to solve the problem in the initial phase
  • I tested the idea among a small group of individuals

Story Boarding and Wire framing

Care was taken to preserve the fantastic UI of the App and make little modifications to achieve the design goals.

Final Prototype

After research, brainstorming and feedback. I decided on a little modification to the home activity by introducing a cutomer care floating action button to it . Customers who are have issues can directly chat with customer care and new entrants can easily ask questions or view FAQs.
